Running in Holland & Biking with Frodo: The Fellowship with the Seasons

Summer, 2013
“Every morning I jump out of bed and step on a landmine. The landmine is me. After the explosion, I spend the rest of the day putting the pieces together.”

Late Summer, 2013

“You know, bicycling isn't just a matter of balance," I said. "it's a matter of faith. You can keep upright only by moving forward. You have to have your eyes on the goal, not the ground. I'm going to call that the Bicyclist's Philosophy of Life.”
― Susan Vreeland

Last weekend, I was still not feeling strong enough to resume my marathon training, and was also not up for the social visits we scheduled during the week.

This is why I stayed at home with oldest daughter (who needs to catch up on finishing school work!) while Mijn Liefste P and the girls went off without us to welcome a new member of the family - more on this, next time,

I went under the duvet after preparing snacks, set up the DVD to watch The Hobbit 1 & 2, and mentally let go of my need to do everything.

"Everything", I feel I should be doing to feel deserving of the good life I feel will be taken away from me, if I don't make myself worthy

Deep, huh? :)

Digging deep within the recesses of my consciousness is what I have been doing since I started with blogging - first anonymously 9 years ago, and publicly since 4 years - and I think this year before Spring has sprung,  I finally struck "gold".

Nope, this blog is not getting a huge sponsorship*! :D

No. What I gained from blogging, what I considered as "gold", my positive precious are: life balance and quiet contentment.

I've learned after years of what I call as "My Ground Hog Days",  what gives me peace of mind is having acquired the ability to embrace my life with the best, as well as the worst, the moments of serenity with the daily threat of chaos.

In doing what I can (and enjoying what I can!) until I can do better - I easily breathe in life's daily blessing, and exhale out the distractions, which in the end, in the big scope of things , do not truly matter.

The daily biking, running everywhere (!!!)  and taking  thousands of photos to document everything - they all contributed to helping me see life with clarity, and living the lessons learned in the process.

Winter, 2015

The energy I gained from the pursuit of living & documenting  a life outdoors, helped me blog again @ Happy Feet in the Netherlands & The Lightness of Being on the Bike with more enthusiasm.

I feel more liberated, open and natural in my writing because I feel good in my skin, and in turn I find it rewarding in seeing, how it is reflecting in my blogging.

“Writing is the only way I have to explain my own life to myself.”

We went through a lot, and we gained strength.  We weathered through the seasons, and flourished. We accepted the changes, and gained wisdom.

From here on, I (together with my family!) will embrace the positive possibilities of the present & future with open arms* and lighter being!

*This was never ever my purpose when I began with blogging.  Although I did attempt to give it a try 2 years ago out of curiosity.

I recognize the same conflicts of emotion I did, when I was working in advertising and media. I seem to alway lose my motivation to write after a while.

It was then I recognize that although the process creatively challenges me, it also stifles me creatively.

At this point in my life, I have other priorities, and accepting this makes blogging for me liberating as opposed to limiting.

A Place to Wait, A Place to Grow, A Place to BE

This post is inspired in parts by an article a friend posted on FB, an FB post another friend wrote, and many positive words from lovely people, beautiful souls in my life (you know who you all are ♡).

I've always advised friends going through a difficult time to use blogging, writing, running or any creative outlet and/or outdoor activity to help them "get out of their mind", when it is caught in the spiral of negative thinking, and that feeling of being overwhelmed with life.

Today, I am taking my own advice.

Waiting
.

We all have to wait.

We all have different kinds of waiting.

I'm not good at waiting.

Are you?

The ironic thing about life, it throws you in situations you are not good at (repeatedly!!!!!!!!!).

Or you find yourself constantly dealing with circumstances, which leaves you feeling trapped and alone.

Very alone.

All these situations and circumstances eventually makes you learn how to cope better and come out a winner.

One of my treasured "Moving-In Pictures"
- March, 2009 - the year we moved to the Netherlands from Germany
Holland is the third country I moved to (third continent I lived in) since leaving the Philippines in 1993

How?

Bravely face the painful patterns, have the courage to break it and feel confident to face the next challenge.

Simple, right? Right.

Believe it is, and it will be.  I speak from experience.

The paradox: the painful patterns makes one stronger, braver, more courageous & confident.

Main motivation why I begun with blogging 7 years ago:
actively battle the cycles of my manic-depression; stop my mind from imprisoning myself.
Discovering 365 projects, in 2007 have helped me "get out" of that self-imposed prison
using the creativity of blogging

Believe.

One truly can come out of repeated painful life patterns, and come out of it a winner

I do not mean a winner in the sense of winning competitions or being champion at sports events.

You can be of course, if that is what you want.

If that is the goal you would like to set to make you feel like a winner.

Since life will show you  :
  • if you set a goal,
  • truly know the why behind this goal,
  • commit
  • and focus,
you will attain what ever it is you set out to do.

If you welcome life and all the possibilities it throws at you, you can be the winner of your goals & dreams.

There is a different kind of winning, though.

Being your own silent winner.

Being your own champion.

Winning your own silent battles is in the end the most important battle you will face.  The most fulfilling battle you can win.

Silent battles are battles each normal human being face.

Only not many talk, write about it...and yes, choose to "suffer in silence".

Sometimes, it seems it is the "only" choice.  We discover in time, this is not true.

Blogging Projects... have literally awakened my mind when it starts isolating itself.

I've done a lot of waiting.  I've done a lot of silent suffering.

Waiting  and suffering in one's youth; waiting and suffering in one's adulthood.

In youth: waiting to finish going to school - finally be freeeeeeeeee!

Be a free adult, and live life in the way I visualise a happy life to be.

In adulthood: waiting to be able to go to school again, learn the true essentials of life - finally be free.

Be free from silent suffering adults go through.

Since you are told from childhood on, that school prepares you for adult life.

Logic follows, that there is another school, when you have become an adult.

The kind of school that will teach you, "How to Live: when you have reached that point in life, that you should *actually, already know* how to!"

Acceptance & Growth. . .

There is one last, and most important school we will ever attend in our life time,  where there is only one degree to master:  Growth and Acceptance.

You might ask me, "Is there such a school?!? Where, when and how can I sign up for this degree???"

I have come to call this school: Life school.

Where:
Within you; it is in that inner fighting spirit that refuse to give up & keep on learning what life teaches
When:
Now. The beginning of learning is always in the now.
How:
Participate. Positively. Actively.

Everyone has their own Life School

Everyone.

The important thing to note, and is worth repeating:

everyone has their own school to go, individual classes to attend fit for each individual, and the individual time period, when the search arise for such a school.

Still, we are never - I repeat, NEVER- alone in this everlasting learning process.

Never alone.

When not running & blogging, I stay creatively & meditatively in motion through biking
@ The Lightness of Being on the Bike
in late Summer

Life School for me is about, acceptance, growth but most importantly: being.

Being authentic. Being who we truly are.

Simply being.

We can say, life learning is all about:
  • loving learning,
  • making the learning fun,
  • plowing on when the learning gets hard,
  • asking - and yes, even crying out for help when the learning gets unbearable.

Still, in the end the core is: being.

Do we ever graduate from Life School?

I often think no one graduates from Life School.

I want to believe though (the romantic in me!), that when we mastered *being*, we can be counsellors.

We counsel while we continue learning ourselves, how to...
  • breathe - show ourselves with each breath, that we might think and feel we are dead but we  are not
  • look inside ourselves, accept and grow - the bad, the good, the ugly, the beautiful . . .
  • express who we are - actively, creatively, honestly, passionately . . .
  • share - I can repeat it again, and again, we are never alone, we should not feel alone...but we need to reach out...
  • make a step forward - stepping forward, even in the unknown ...eliciting change because no movement means staying frozen, where we are
  • go back from the start and repeat

Snaps of a Simple Life: An Apple A Day!

Littlest is the goofiest in our family.

27.04.13 - a family movie night on the  chilla couch!
 26.07.13 - TGIF!
Family ice cream night!
It is the first time we bought it  from the vendor, who drives with his van our village every Friday evening.
Littlest less than a year old.

She is a ball of energy. Fun energy.

Littlest when she was 2 years old.

She is the (little) person to watch when we we start to take things too seriously. No matter how bad your mood is, she'll have her way of making you crack up with her infectious laughter or smile with her unique humour.

Littlest now 5 years old, at the closing day of her older sister's Avondvierdaagse

Not long after breakfast, as expected, Littlest had an appetite for a snack. This is why we have lots of fruits at home (apples, bananas, grapes are just some of her favourites) to satisfy her (and her sisters) in between meals craving.

The healthy corner of our kitchen. :)

She came to me in the middle of writing something I have been procrastinating on, and said, "Mom take a picture of me!"

I had to laugh because of her silliness. She's been doing this the whole weekend but we can't help laugh every time she comes to us with her innocent twinkling eyes, and her "sweet smile".

After taking this snap, and eating the slices of her apples, she begun to horse around with her sister.

K - middle daughter, is most often Littlest partner in crime in having fun!
27.07.13
Shower in the rain last Saturday.

I wanted to finish what I was writing because there were many chores waiting for me. Chores I would actually rather not do but I've put it off for so long (take the weeds off the front and back garden for example on the long to-do list for this Summer!).

A carefree Spring 2013 morning of the girls, taken  Saturday, 4th of May/11:03 from our living room window.
They were on their way towards the front door after walking around our neighbourhood

As expected (yup, life with kids is equally predictable & unpredictable!), the horsing around ended up with cries of, "Mom! (insert name of the child here, who is being accused of the other child, who feels she is the victim) hurt me!"

"Dress up in day clothes! I'll give you something to do if you can't find something better to do" was my succint reply to the duo whining of, "No, she did it, not me!"

I thought why should I take the weeds off alone, when I can make them help me.

27.04.13 - a much awaited day!
The gardener finally arrived to put some order to our front garden. :)
04.06.13
Our front garden, still bare and full of possibilities (currently full of weeds as well)!
Hopefully, I can show all of you soon what mijn liefste P, the family and I have done for improvements.

Busy children are happy children. Or at the very least not bickering children!

I like to see them like this all the time!
The reality of daily life though, sibling bickering is part of it.
27.07.13
After the shower in the rain, a warm shower and warm meal together. :)

The Littlest came up to me again with her twinkling eyes, wearing as always a huge smile sans the apple slice, and said, "Mom, that rhymes: I'll give you something to do if you can't find something better to do!"

hahahaha  (collective laughter of the family :D)

I relplied, "Well, Mommy is a poet don't you know, darling?" :P

I thought I'll repost it here because of the quotes I once blogged there together with this image ~

Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.
Dr. Seuss

If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.
Katharine Hepburn

Guess who is going to have fun taking the weeds off by herself (as expected!)? ;)
